It felt really good to connect, spend some time together and discuss a lot! I will leave any notes to Sylvia. Just wanted to share these two visuals. Next time, we’ll take photos. Please be thinking about the mission and vision, so we can tweak and agree soon. Was going to say next board meeting, but that’s not until October. Thanks, Dana P.S. Jim, just confirming that Sylvia is on the board email. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "board" group. There have consistently been 50-100 or so bees on my fountain most of the day. In addition they have taken over my hummingbird feeder to the point where the hummers cannot drink there any longer. I like bees but my husband is allergic to their sting and my dog is getting a bit too interested in this many bees milling around. I know there are several neighbors with hives so they are likely traveling around Blackpoint in Novato where I live. I suppose I should turn the fountain off and take the feeder down to deter them. But I'm curious why so many are hanging around? Also, I suspect they would still come to the fountain unless we drain it and that would likely ruin the wine barrel's integrity. The Public Works Department says they are bees. We just assumed they were Yellowjackets. We have been told that Public Works that they are bees with a suspected nest in the big oak tree above the picnic/bar-b-que area. Please change membership info year in last paragraph to 2026-2027 membership years. ### Prepare Your Hive for a Rainy El Niño Winter! Presented by Jennifer Radtke, Learn from the Bees Winter is just around the corner, and now is the time to make sure your colonies are in the best possible condition to get through the rainy months. Jennifer will cover: - Getting Varroa mites and viruses under control before winter - How much to reduce your hive - How much honey to leave for the bees - How to prevent mold and moisture problems - How to insulate your hive - Other important steps to prepare your colonies for a wet winter About Jennifer Radtke: Jennifer has been keeping bees in her backyard for more than 20 years and developed the beekeeping education program at Urban Farm Oasis in Berkeley. She served as Vice President of the Alameda County Beekeepers Association for three years and operates a yearly bee mentorship program through her business, Learn from the Bees. Her mentees keep bees throughout the Bay Area, from Marin to Oakland/Berkeley and Livermore, giving her experience with a wide variety of microclimates and beekeeping conditions. This should be a great lecture as we head into winter, so come out, bring your questions, and learn how to give your colonies the best chance of coming through the rainy season strong. We look forward to seeing everyone Thursday night! They were able to troubleshoot the problem by video call and will be sending me the necessary parts to repair. It is a bushing and screws so the expense should be $20-30 including shipping. I will let you know of my progress and anticipated "back in service" date.
