We will be offering training in Epi-Pen administration, CPR, and AED use on November 5 at 3:30 p.m. at the Log Cabin in San Anselmo. The training will help participants understand how to respond appropriately in an emergency, including when someone may need an Epi-Pen. It will also cover the relevant Good Samaritan protections for individuals who provide emergency assistance, as discussed during the training. The cost is $90 per person, payable directly to the trainer via PayPal. We encourage interested members to take advantage of this opportunity to build their knowledge and confidence in responding to a medical emergency in our beekeeping community. If you are interested please reply directly to paul at marinbees.org and I will send you more detailed information and reserve a spot for you. In preparation for our upcoming Board Meeting on October 15, please find attached for the Board's review: 1. Updated Board Meeting Minutes - for approval 2. Hive Dive MOU draft - detailing protocols and responsibilities during a Hive Dive. I am not a lawyer, and unfortunately I don't know a lawyer who can review it. I used AI to generate this draft, and AI based its draft on best practices from agricultural extensions and the Honey Bee Health Coalition ( https://honeybeehealthcoalition.org/resources/hive-health-best-management-practices/ ). I also included a draft waiver form for the hive dives, but we should still need a lawyer to review it. Below is what AI added as a comment: In standard beekeeping association protocols, events where members visit an apiary for hands-on learning are often called "Hive Dives" or "Open Apiary Sessions." To protect the association, the Board, and the property owner, the association uses a standard Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) & Liability Waiver to clarify who controls the bees and who controls the physical space. Note: I am sorry, I cannot seem to find my Google account for the Board anymore; I'm not sure whether that is due to a recent update or something else. Looking forward to seeing you all again! Please find the agenda for our meeting later today attached. As mentioned in my last email, I am unfortunately unable to access the @marinbees.org email Jim assigned me (not sure why). As a result, I do not have the Zoom link. If someone could kindly send it to my address, watkinssand at icloud.com , I would appreciate it. I am attaching the Agenda, the Meeting Minutes for the August meetings to be voted on (I do not have the electronic version of the July Meeting Minutes), as well as the Hive Dive Agreement and Waiver draft documents circulated on Oct. 9. I do not have the financials that Gary needs us to vote on, but I trust he distributed them via the Board email. Our current practice is to apply the excess payment toward additional years of membership. I’m not sure that this is necessarily the payer’s intent. In many cases, someone may simply wish to contribute a little extra to support the Marin County Beekeepers Association and its educational programs, rather than prepay for several years of membership. I’d like to propose that we adopt a policy whereby any amount paid in excess of the annual dues is treated as a donation to MCBA for the current year, rather than extending membership into future years. Membership would continue to renew annually, with dues collected each year. I believe this approach would better reflect the likely intent of our members, provide additional support for the association’s activities, and more accurately represent membership tracking and renewals. Of course, if someone specifically wishes to pay for multiple years of membership, we could accommodate that request. The distinction would be that excess payments are considered donations unless the payer explicitly indicates otherwise. Before adopting the policy, we should confirm how donations should be recorded and acknowledged, particularly if MCBA represents the excess payment as a charitable contribution for tax purposes. I’d appreciate your thoughts on this proposal and whether we can agree on changing the policy going forward. Thank you. best regards, Paul PaulPaul Reulbach Paul Reulbach President Marin County Beekeepers Association https://marinbeekeepers.org 617-828-2222 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "board" group. I am one of those who probably paid my $25 membership more than once a year. It was because we didn’t have a good system in place to remind members when their memberships are due. Once that system is operational, I think we’ll collect more, do it more consistently and then we can ask people for donations in a separate ask. Asking for additional donations to MCBA is a good idea. And, a good idea to do soon, i.e. before Giving Tuesday ;). Do we have an extractor that is currently inoperable due to another reason that I can swap out the motors? Neil and David please get back to me or I can come onsite to inspect the equipment. If we want to replace with a new motor it is $389 plus shipping.  Paul  Paul Reulbach  PresidentMarin County Beekeepers Associationhttps://marinbeekeepers.org617-828-2222 On Oct 17, 2026, at 2:19 PM, Paul Reulbach wrote: Hi -I picked up the 6 frame extractor that was loaned from Dave Peterson's inventory. Dear members, The MCBA board is looking for members with the following skills to help the board with management of the association and its resources: - a graphic designer to help design MCBA logo and swag, - a librarian to manage the association's lending library, - someone familiar with grant writing to help the board submit grant proposals, - a webmaster to help design and manage the association's website and membership database, - a lawyer to help review waivers and policies for association activities, - someone to help store and manage the association's equipment (honey extractors, donated equipment, ...) If you or someone you know has any of these desired skills and would be willing to volunteer their services for a few hours per month, please get in touch with Jim Lawson (communications at marinbees.org ).
