Dear Board Members,
I wanted to provide an update on our educational programming efforts.
I have heard back from Jennifer Radke regarding the possibility of teaching
for the Marin County Beekeepers Association. She was very excited to hear
from us and would love to present a live lecture at one of our monthly
meetings. She is currently available on October 1 and has a variety of
lecture topics to choose from. She is also available to present many of her
lectures via Zoom.
In addition, I am reaching out to several other well-known beekeeping
educators and speakers in an effort to build a strong schedule of future
meeting presentations and Zoom lectures for our membership.
As we discuss bringing in outside speakers, I would appreciate feedback
from the board regarding compensation. My initial thought is that a
reasonable range may be between $200 and $300 per lecture, though Zoom
presentations may potentially be less expensive. I would be interested in
hearing everyone’s thoughts on an appropriate budget.
I would also like your input on lecture topics. What subjects would you
personally like to see presented to our members? Whether it’s queen
rearing, swarm management, honey production, pollinator habitat, bee
biology, mite management, or other advanced beekeeping topics, I would
appreciate your suggestions.
I am currently working on securing the lecture for our August meeting and
hope to have more updates soon.
Please don’t be shy—I’d love to hear your feedback and ideas.
Thank you,
Justin Strom Director of Education Marin County Beekeepers Association
