I have a couple of members that have been asking for free Bees. I?ll talk

We have an avian vet up in Petaluma who is certified as bee vet!   He is 
the only avian vet in the area (we have two birds) and I have talked to him 
about bees.  He doesn't find them very interesting from a veterinary stand 
point as mostly just people dealing with verroa

I am away from Sept 9th through Sept 21st.   I would suggest if we have a
quorum of directors available on September 10th, that the Board go ahead
with the meeting as planned.

Voting for the election of a new president is supposed to be open from Aug
10th through Aug 17th.

Obviously, if Paul was the only nominee there is no need for a vote.

Hi bee board,

I hope you are all well!

I agree with Gary that we should send an email through the Buzz letting folks know where we are with the elections.  

What did we agree to do about the secretary position?  Is David interested?  We need to have a new election, right?  Let’s send the election info in the same email.  

Maybe something like:
	Hi MCBA. We wanted to update you on our process to choose a new club president.  We have one great nominee (nominated by a couple people), Paul Reulbach.
	Unless someone else would like to nominate themselves before Sunday, 8/17, the board is very happy to have Paul Reulbach as club president. 
	
	And, because Paul is currently the MCBA secretary, we are looking for nominations for our new secretary.  Please nominate people by ____________ (date) so voting can 	happen ____________ 

Questions:

1. Do we really need to wait 2 weeks before the secretary vote?  If so, I suggest we give folks a 3-day voting window.

We have 2 new RETREAT date options.  But, we want the new secretary to be there, so if the election process takes more than a week, one option (8/20) won’t work.
Is everyone available Tuesday, September 1st??

Only 1 person was nominated for president.  Do we need to vote and send out

Hi,

I think some folks who are “old school” think that voting means ballots.
That’s why we need to send out an email via the buzz about the results.
Before that, we need to confirm the timing and process for the vacant secretary position.

Some thoughts:

1. Why extend the voting?  
2.  What about voting for a new secretary?  Can we ask for nominations in the same email?
3.  If our retreat is Sept. 1 - which looks good, but we still need to hear from Jim, Tom and Gary - we would want our new secretary there.

Does anyone know this individual?

Although our By-laws require one year of membership, I hate to shut out
anybody who wants to volunteer.  So here are my thoughts.

*  IF *we don't have anyone else who meets the qualification requirements,
maybe we accept this person as the "interim" Secretary to the Board with an
understanding that they will not become the actual Secretary until such
time as they meet the one year requirement and an election for that
position will be held.  While we will include them in our Board meetings,
but they will not be eligible to vote in the "interim" capacity,

I would sincerely welcome other Board members thoughts on this matter,

Yes, she comes to the meetings with her son and husband.  She has 6 hives
that she bought from Bonnie.  I like her and she came to a hive dive.  I
would be supportive of her.

Great that we already have a candidate. 
In my opinion, Sylvia is active and enthusiastic.  And, I think it’s important to review the job description and expectations with anyone interested.
This is a position where consistency and attendance are important. 
We want to be sure she’s committed.

Okay!  I will reach out to her, explain the situation and see if she would
still be interested.  I will emphasize that IF we get someone who already
qualified (member one year) then we will have to go in accordance with our

Yes, both are paid-up members. I need to implement a membership lookup page on the website, and suitable authentication procedures so board members (at least) can access it.
This has been on my TODO list for about six months. I'll devote some time to it this week.

I would let them know that the Bees are most likely dead.  Nothing to worry
about until a new swarm moves back in.  I can email them directly if you

I called mannlake and they said that someone made the purchase at the store
in Woodland.  They just mentioned that they are a member of MCBA.  That’s
why the checker picked that account and email.  So it’s not a scam.  They
just picked that account randomly from the list.

Just an FYI.

We do not have a credit card for the MCBA.  All we have is a debit card
that is attached to our checking account.  When I took over as Treasurer, I
cancelled the old debit card and opened a new one.  I am the only person on
the new debit account and have the Pin number associated with it.  I
checked and I still have the debit card in my possession,

It is interesting that somebody is using the name President?   Anybody know
anyone from Woodland or Davis area?

As Paul stated, we are thrilled to have you join us!   I am so  happy that
you will be able to join us at the retreat.   We will be discussing a MCBA
mission and vision statement.   More importantly, we will discuss ways to
move the organization forward relative to those statements.  I am attaching
a copy of our MCBA By-Laws for your reference.   Article II of the By-Laws
include the purpose of the MCBA.  Obviously this is very relevant to our
Mission and Vision statement.

I will be at the retreat.  Thanks for hosting!

Jennifer Berry and my wife did a Bee presentation to the Women's Outdoor
Art Club back in April of this year.  I will see if I can get a copy of
that presentatio..  The presentation was about 45 minutes long so it could
be tailored to meet the audience needs.  If they still have a copy of the
presentation I will get a copy of it.  There is no need to reinvent the
wheel!

I can call them and let them know what is going on.  unfortunately, bees in
the wild have a 70% failure rate.  But a new swarm always moves into a bee
tree in the spring.  So the bee tree will continue to have bees.

Recognizing that our Directors retreat has a limited time and purpose, I
would like to bring two matters to the Board/

1).  We need a board action (motion/second/vote) to pay the bill for our
Directors and Officers liability insurance.   The annual premium is $857.

The board has previously agreed to continue with the insurance to ensure
against any litigation that might arise for activities conducted by the
MCBA (hive dives, fair days, etc).

2).  Month end July and August reports.   Column added to show prior year
actual and current year budget.

Highlights July:   Board agreed to renew and extend lease for Log Cabin
along with the necessary liability insurance

Highlight Aug:   One member paid their dues (cash), received Money for our
participation at Marin county fair, Supplies purchased for Fair, (prior
board approval obtained).   CD matured and interest rolled into new five
month maturity.

Request a motion/Vote for approval of reports as presented.
